Mrs. Bernice Viola Gerber, 68, 567 S. May Ave., a lifelong resident of Kankakee County, died at 9:50 a.m. Friday in St. Mary’s Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Her death came just 26 hours after the death of a sister, Mrs. Melissa Haarer, Gainesville, Fla., who died Thursday.
Mrs. Gerber was born Aug. 18, 1898 in Kankakee, the daughter of the late Mr. And Mrs. Norris J. Miller.
She was married Dec. 27, 1921 in Chicago to Wendell Gerber, who survives along with: a daughter, Mrs. Beverly Cole, Kankakee; brothers, Ernest and Leo, both of Kankakee; sister, Mrs. Freda Haarer, Kankakee; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Clancy Funeral Home, where visitors may call after 2 p.m. today until time of services.
The Rev. Frank Pieper of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate and burial will be in Memorial Gardens.

Wendell G. Gerber, 67 of 567 S. May Ave. died at 6 a.m. Saturday at Riverside Hospital following a short illness. He was a lifelong resident of Kankakee and was a superintendent at Kroehler Manufacturing Co., where he had been employed for 42 years.
He was born May 16, 1901, in Papineau, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gerber. He was married Dec 27, 1921 in Chicago to Bernice Miller. She died Dec. 2, 1966.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Beverly Shreves of Paxton; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother George Gerber of Whitehouse Point, Fla.; and a sister, Mrs. Faye Captain of California.
Gerber was a member of Masonic Lodge 389 of Kankakee.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Clancy Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Pieper of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. Sunday until the time of services. Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens of Memory.
Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Clancy Funeral Home.
