Letter from Freda's Granddaughter
Letter from (living granddaughter) to notify of Freda's death:Tuesday, May 29, 2001
Dear Friends,
This is a very difficult letter for me to write: but there is something I think you need to know. I am very sad to tell you that my grandmother, Freda M. Olesinski passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2001. She had a seven week stay in the hospital here in Frederick, MD. She was diagnosed with colon cancer and proceeded to have surgery on that Thursday. She came through the surgery quite well, but then suffered a stroke that affected her right arm and leg, leaving them paralyzed. Due to the stroke she went into a deep depression and did not want to eat anymore. She kept saying that nothing tasted good. Therefore we had no choice but to put her on a feeding tube to supplement her diet. She had many ups and downs: but for those of you who knew her well, you know she put up quite a good fight! Two Sunday nights ago she had a very difficult night and pulled the feeding tube out! At that point there was not much more we could do but push her to eat. The dr.'s decided to take her off everything (except a pain patch) and see how she did. Well she began slipping away from us on Wednesday evening. She made it through every night, when we didn't think she would! This woman had a very strong willpower!! We kept a 24-hour vigil at her bedside; but I began to realize that she was not going to allow herself to pass away in front of an audience! Even though we loved her so much! I guess she was sparring us even that!
We decided to give her some alone time, and she passed away two hour later (at 2:15) in the afternoon.
I am so sorry to have to let you know this way, but do not know how to reach alot of you besides the mail. I can assure you that she went peacefully and quietly! Every letter that she received from you all was read to her, and would brighten her day enormously! She loved every one of you, and treasured hearing from you! I know that you will miss her as much as I will, but I know she is much happier now! She used to always tell me "The devil wouldn't have her, and the good Lord didn't want her"! I guess He changed His mind!!
Sincerely,
(living granddaughter signed)
