Pollie Melissa Carnegie

Pollie Melissa Carnegie was born May 26, 1838 in New Salem, York County, Pennsylvania, the first child born to Norris and Caroline Carnegie.

  • Norris Carnegie born April 17, 1811; died December 18, 1874
  • Caroline [nee. unknown] birth date unknown; died December 10, 1872
  • Pollie had a younger sister, Emma G. Carnegie who gave birth to twins in late 1879 and died on January 6, 1880 from typhoid fever at Junction City, Kansas shortly after their birth. Emma left behind a husband (George Wylie) and the infant twins. Pollie and Jacob adopted Earl Wiley, who died a short time later, on February 20, 1880. We have no record of what happened to the husband, George Wylie, or the other twin.

    Owen Carnegie, Pollie's younger brother was born in 1848 in New York State. We have no other information on this sibling.
